I am going to Iraq for a longer than normal period of time...longer than 12 months. I am concerned about what I need to do to ensure my 2003 America will run long enough, when I get back, to get to the shop for services. I have heard "drain the oil", "Fill the crankcase completely", "empty the fuel", add stabilizer....help. I do know to put it on stands to save the suspension, at least.

I don't know much about your bike model. I have a Thruxton. Anyway, I ran across a blurb in my owners manual about winter storage. Taking out the spark plugs, adding a few drops of oil in their place. Stuff like that. Check your manual it may be quite helpful. It might be wise to remove the baterry entirely for such a long storage time. And maybe even call the dealership and ask what they think about storage precautions.
Hope this helps...

Most say drain and refill oil, put it on stands for anti-tire flatspots, drain the gas, take out the plugs and drop a little oil in the cylinders, put plugs back in, clean and wax it, and most importantly, tell it you'll see it when you can and to just be patient. Kyle

Drain all gas from tank, then run engine until it runs out of fuel. Drain any remaining gas from the float bowls. Better yet, just have a friend ride it for you every other week or so. Good luck in Iraq. Bill
