Don't suppose anyone has done this, but I gotta ask.

I am wanting to get some balanced downpipes to fit my Legend but I want to retain the centrestand. I have a feeling the early T3 downpipes may be suitable or some off the early Speed Triples, which should look a bit smarter?

Retention of the centrestand is non-negotiable! :-D

Anyone in the know?

TIA

I've been thinking the same thing Nige, but all I keep coming back to is that it would be easiest to modify the existing pipes, that way you could put the balance pipe wherever you wanted it. All the other pipes seem like they would need surgery of some form to fit as there doesnt seem to be any standard position for the rear mountings or standard geometry to the mufflers.

It is not so much the geometry of the rear mount that is my problem, Mick. (I would be re-using the Rayguns anyway).

The area of my concern is the horizontal run & fouling the centrestand. The early T3 variants seem to have a balance pipe running under around this point & from what I have seen this would be a non starter for the Legend. The balance pipe / central split has to be in the downward run of the pipe to be certain of being viable.

I have toyed with the idea of custom build on the existing downpipes, but I would view this as a last resort. I really want to retain the standard parts if I can.

Any further input would be most welcome.

TIA

From what I know nige the balance pipe on the 2000 on TBS does not itself interfere with the centerstand, it's the shape of the exhaust headers that does it. The up sweep is further back so what happens is that the arm of the centerstand hits it. I am pretty sure that it's a common misconception that you cant fit the centerstand because of the balance pipe. But some people have actually fitted centerstands to the 200 model year tbs without removing the balance pipe at all. they have had to cut the arm off the side of the stand though. I am assumign thats because it hits the upsweep on the TBS pipe.

I know what you mean about not wanting to modify your standard parts. I was just thinkign that a set of Legend headers would be as easy to obtain second hand as those from any other T3. If you were then positioning the balance pipe yourself you shoudl be able to do it in a place that would ensure the centerstand wouldn't hit it.

The variants that have balance pipes do seem to have a lot more clearance between the back of the sump & the centrestand lugs than there is on the Legend.

You may be right that the best option is a custom build with the balance pipe grafted in somewhere under the radiator.

I was hoping that I would be able to find out which, if any, of the first generation speed triple downpipes would be a pretty straight-forward fit.
