Have had to adjust the chain on my 2000 Sprint St again (last time 1000 mi ago). There are definite tight and loose sections when I turn the rear wheel, I don't know if the chain is wearing or if the sprockets are ovalling. The teeth don't look bad but I have no experience judging sprocket wear. I only found one or two tight links in the chain, but I did notice that some of the link rollers spin freely when I am cleaning the chain

The bike had 10K when I bought it and about 14,200 now. I am considering replacing both sprockets and the chain just to remove all doubt about the condition.

I see several recommendations in forums against the OEM parts but I also see recommendations for the Triumph front sprocket. Apparently the Triumph part has rubber vibration isolators built into it.

Any one have suggestions for brand/model of chain and sprockets for the Sprint ST? How much do I need to plan on spending?

Thanks for any info.

Regards,

Bruce G

Bruce,

I think that there is a consensus that the O.E. chain is pretty much garbage. Mine was gone at 13,000 miles.

My dealer set me up with a stock Triumph front sprocket, a JT rear and a DID x-ring chain. I now have 17,000 miles on the set, the rear looks good, of course I can't see the front, and the chain measures 304mm over 20 links. As I recall, the service limit is 319mm so there is a lot left. You can probably do what you want on sprockets but I'd leave the Regina (O.E.) on the shelf.
