I picked up a small nail in my nearly new rear tire (500 miles). The bike was in for it's 500 mile service and the dealer noticed the rear pressure was low, so he checked for a slow leak and found the nail...
Dealer refuses to patch/repair tires (insurance reasons), so I was stuck paying way too much for a replacement. I'm picking up my original tire today as it's pissing rain in PA today...
Bottom Line: It was a smallish nail. Can I just patch the tire and use it next year when it's time to put new rubber on?

I would..!
If it's a tubless tyre on a tubeless rim it should be plugged rather than patched. Take it to a tyre depot rather than a bike dealer.

As Slinky says, car tyre place should be able to plug & vulcanise it for you.

Nobody will patch a bike tire in the US. Too many lawyers have told them that a plug voids the speed rating. If you don't plan on doing track days or high speed work with the bike, just get a plug kit from the closest auto parts store and fix it yourself. You should get a new tire if the hole is in the sidewall, but in the tread you should be OK. I had something similar happen to a tire with only 500 miles on it. I wore out the tire after plugging it. The main concession to a damaged tire is that I didn't take it above 80 mph that much or for very long. It could fail if the carcas has been damaged in the wrong way, but then again, it will probably be fine.

Hmmm, glad I have inner tubes here in the US now, if places wont do vulcanized repairs to bike tires here.
