(Originally posted in twins before I remembered the workshop, sorry)

Hey gang, question for you. After installing the ( clear ) Triumph fly screen on my scrambler and routing everything as per instructions I experienced throttle movement when turning the bars hard right. Shame on me but I didn't find out until I was leaving a gravel parking lot turning, you guessed it, right. No oops but plenty of drama.

I'm sure I did it wrong but i tried adjusting the ferrule under the rubber cover( by the grip ) by turning the ferrule and threads apart lengthening the assembly but that made the throttle go up turing the bars to the right with the fly screen removed and everything back to stock ( in other words, it made the problem worse) so I set it back and figured I'd leave well enough alone for the time being. I was unable to tighten the ferrule assembly making it shorter.

It seems that the location of the flyscreen mount puts just enough pressure on the throttle cable(s) to raise the engine speed by 1,000 - 2,000 rpm ...not fun. What needs to be adjusted, throttle free play? If so, where is that accomplished and how do I do that. :???:

Thanks!
Rich

If I follow things right, lengthening a cable housing makes a cable tighter. To loosen a cable one shortens the housing. I like to think of the cable and housing laid out flat on a table, when the housing is lengthened, the cable starts to disappear from the housing ends. If that cable were attached to a throttle, it'd be the same as reducing the freeplay and applying the throttle sooner.

Hi thorick, thanks that clarifies things a little.

But, if I shorten the housing, then I'm only drawing it tighter across the bracketry since it's fixed by the housing to the throttle and carb brackets so in doing so I'd be binding the bars with a shortened housing. Right? Isn't there something else that would needs to be done? I have a hard time believing they'd offer up an accessory that would require longer cables.

:???: ugh ( hating cables right now )

I would think laterally on this.

You are adjusting the cable that was presumably fine before the screen installation?
If that is the case then you are treating the symptom rather than the cause.

What has caused it is fitting the screen.

Ideally, I would look to re routing the cable around the bracket, to give you back the lost slack....Or if that is not feasable modifying the screen mount.

Nige.

Thanks Nige.

You know, I was thinking to myself that the factory's suggested routing didn't look that great but who am i to argue, right?

Now I have another thing to try tonight :hammer:

Yes it would be easier to take it to the dealer but nowhere near as fun.
