I am in the process of picking up a 2003 Trophy 4 1200. I have been very happy with my modified 1995 Trophy 4 1200. I had spoken a long time ago with a Triumph mechanic who stated that I could use Daytona piston/cams on the 2003, if it was bored out. I just need to know which ones to use, any ideas from the experts? Also, other than a K&N kit, and D&D cans, any other suggestions to make it any more of an ill ride? Please feel free to shoot me a msg here or at my regular email @ bradleyjgagnon@msn.com.

Welcome!!
I'd give Matt Capri or Wade Wilcox a call at SouthBay Triumph. They should be able to answer all your questions. SouthBay Clicky
I know that if you are willing to bore your block, you can slip the sleeves and pistons from a 2002+ 955 Daytona into your block for a gain in cc's as well as HP. You will want to use the sleeves from the newer models as they are cut on the skirt for more HP. I did this with my Super III and am VERY pleased with the outcome.
As for the cams I would imagine the cams from any 1200 Daytona would work.

Wow, good to find so many other Triumph enthusiasts, and to get such a quick response. I seem to recall that I was told to use the 2002 Daytona's, are you saying it would be better to use the ones from the newest (2004/2005) Daytona? I am a little bit of an idiot as far as mechanics, but I will remember to tell them to use the sleeves. Wish there was a full high performance, after market exhaust. All I have heard on that is that D&D slip on's are available. Thats what I have on my 95. Appreciate the info and contact info. Any other suggestions would be great. I am new to the message board scene, so I will try to figure out how to send them a msg etc.

The sleeves from the newest version of the engine no matter the year will do what you want them to do. Correct me if I'm wrong guys/gals, but I believe the newest engine update was in 2001. So, 2001 and above would work fine.
Just give'm a call they will be glad to help you go faster!

Hi Tim,
I think that the engine change was 2002. I know that's the case for the Sprint line.

Ok, so now I feel stupid-so anyone that can, feel free to enlighten me. A 2003 Triumph Trophy 4 1200 (4 cyl) is what I am buying. When I spoke with the gentleman I am trying to buy through, he thought I was crazy when I said I wanted to use the new 2002 Daytona pistons/cams (and skirts). He further explained to me that the 2002 Daytona was a 3 cylinder bike and there was no way that 4 of its pistons/cams would fit into a Trophy IV 1200. Can anyone argue or support this either way? Or is it simply that I am not asking for the right things?
Confused.
Oh, one more thing...with the mods I spoke of, is there anyone that could suggest a Mikuni carb I could use?

Uh, just wondering why you would want to put new pistons in such a new engine? Are there issues with it?
As far as the 3-cyl vs. 4-cyl issue, you can put four of any piston that fits into a four cylinder engine. You just need four of them. If you only get three out of a triple, you just need to find one more. The cam from a triple would not work, since it will only open three sets of valves instead of four. Is that the question?
Now I am confused!

Oh God no, nothing wrong with them at all. Just going to highly modify the bike like I did with my 95 model. Was very happy with it. At the time, however, I had a buttload of money and just gave the guy freedom to make it a killer bike. I didn't take the time to look into what exactly all he did and how it improved different aspects. That was a good friend that I trust implicitly, but is no longer around. So....I am making an effort to understand all the modifications this time around.

I have already spoken to Wade Wilcox at SouthBay Triumph about this very mod for putting 2002 sleeves and pistons in a Daytona 1200. The block for the Daytona 1200 and the Trophy 1200 is the same. The sleeves and pistons will fit (after boring the block), and work well. It would be a freekin' screamer! As for the cams, you will have to use those from a Daytona 1200. As Will stated, you will not be able to use the cams from a new Daytona as it is a triple. But, those from say, a 1996 1200 would work great.
As I suggested earlier, call Matt Capri at SouthBay and explain what you are looking for. Not only will he explain how it can be done he can also quote you a price to do it. I had this mod done to my Super III and also had larger intake valves installed. You will like!
I'm using 39mm Kehien carbs on my bike.

That is good to know, I may shoot you a note asking for some more specific info to forward to this guy. They have their own machine shop on site. Only thing missing is a Dyno. I know there is one here in Virginia, even close to me. Just can't remember the damned name. Thanks again man. :-D
