I have a good friend who rides a 2002 Honda CBR 954 RR. Last week he dropped a new battery into his bike and it ran perfectly.

Yesterday, he got the bike out to meet up with me for a ride and to his suprise, his bike wouldn't start.

I came over to help out, but we just couldn't get it going. Here's what I DO know:

1.) We DO have power. The starter wil turn over, and all lights work.

2.) We ARE getting air.

I suppose that leaves out the obvious...fuel delivery.

You know the sound an injected bike makes when you turn the key? The fuel pump priming, I guess??? Well, upon turning the key- we are not getting that sound.

So, my question is this.....is the problem likely the fuel pump, or some other part of the injection system???

Any suggestions???

Thanks in advance,
Ski

Yep, swith was on. lol

We are getting power to the pump as well....just no priming sound....and pretty much no fuel to the cylanders.

Taking off the airbox, I sprayed starter fluid into the down drafts...that started it for a brief moment, then died. So I know there's spark.

Anywho, just wheening out any other possibilities before having to buy a fuel pump.

Did you put a multi meter on the fuel pump to check for a short? Sounds like either a bad pump or clogged filter.

Let us know.

You say you have power to the fuel pump, Ski - does that mean you actually metered the connection on the pump? If so, then yes, it's either pump or, if possible on these things, pump rebuild time. But if you just checked general power, have you checked fuses, connectors and all the impedimenta that lies between?
Good luck, and keep us posted.

Supply known good (fused!) power and ground to the pump connector and see if the pump runs. If so then it is most likely a wire/connector/fuse/PCM issue. If not, then the pump is suspect.

Note that injected vehicles need a certain spec for fuel pressure and volume; if you have a failing pump that isn't completely dead it is possible to get one without the other. Pressure without volume gets you OK starting but poor acceleration/lower top speed. Volume without pressure gets you a no-start/hard start condition.

I was able to narrow it down to the pump as I suspected. Was also able to locate one from E-Bay for $42.00 delivered....not too bad!

We will be installing it Monday, so I'll post back. In the mean time, thanks for all the guidance....My motorcycle "know how" is really limited to carbs. This FI stuff is great, but involves a whole new mindset!

Thanks again,
Ski
