Hi! Let me start off by saying thanks to all the great folks here helping newbies like myself. This is an awesome site with tons of useful info.

My question is regarding scotch briting chrome. Anyone here have any experience doing this?

Difficult to get a good result? Like hours and hours of scrubbing?

I love the look of the Exile cycles and I think I remember this being the method used to get a brushed type finish on chromed parts?

Any tips would be apreciated before I tear into my bike.

I love the Exile cycles too, but they don't use chrome!

They use red scotchbrite with WD40 as a lube to get that finish on aluminium alloy. I hear that it is a time consuming process. You'd think they'd have found a mechanical means to do it by now.

Hmm, I thought I remembered hearing it could be done on chrome as well.

Sure it can be done with crome, but you probably won't like the results. The effect you're after will take a long time and if you try to rush it, it looks uneven. You said hours and hours... I think that to make chrome look like that it would take days. It also will make the chromed part more likely to rust. And it WILL NOT work on chromed plastic. Get a piece of chromed stuff from a junkyard or somewhere to practice with before try it on the bike because undoing it is expensive or very time consuming.
