My bike has been a the dealer for 7 weeks and they apparently haven't a clue. It would die while riding(No spark at the plug). I talked to a mechanic w20 years experience and he said it sounded like a CDI box on the fritz. Any suggestions or comments. Once a coil is bad its bad right?

A coil can "act up", especially once it gets hot, but once it's fried, it stays fried. I guess I haven't heard of Bonnies with a coil failure but it's a known classic triple problem. Why doesn't the dealer swap in a new coil to test it? There is no way they should keep your ride for 7 WEEKS. Maybe they are using it as a loaner bike Get on their case, as nicely as you can and maybe find another dealer. A bad ignition pickup can cause spark problem, but I honestly know little about Bonnies and I'm not afraid to admit it.

I don't know why they didn't swap the coil out and test it. I was told they rode it and no problems but when I picked it up this morning the odometer was where it was when I left it there. It has been a long and frustrating chain of events. What Gill coil is on the Thunderbirds? An FM40? I even wrote to Gill asking their help. No answer, typical. I guess Lucas changed their name.

Nope, mine is 1290048, both plugs fire from the same coil. I checked the resistance in the plug wires as it ran and the right hand side had half the resistance as the left. I pulled plugs and wires and checked them individually. Both plugs and plug wires were the same for both sides so I assume the coil is bad.

Took me all of 30 minutes to do what the dealer never did in 7 weeks!

Thanks for your help.
