Does anyone know what kind of plastic fairing panels are made of? Is it repairable by plastic welding or is there an adhesive that will work?

I recently found that one of the tabs on the lower left belly piece had cracked off.

I wonder if you could make industrial velcro work for that bottom seam?

Thanks for any info.

Regards,

BruceG

If you have all the parts, you can cement them back together using ABS sewer pipe cement. It isn't perfect, but it works and it is extremely cheap.

Yup. Right up there with ya. Just bought a gorgeous '00 TT 600 in beautiful shape. Loaded it up off a loading dock and drove three hours home. Hooked up my ATV ramp and tried to back down. Hung up right in the middle and me with no one around tried to rock it off. Guess what? Cracked up the right side fairing really bad (major pieces here!). I tried the plastex stuff from the Miracle Glue people on a smaller part on the bottom of the left fairing and it seems to be okay. Won't really know anything about the strength until I get the replacement right side on order. Hell, if this stuff works this well I might venture a try on the really bad breaks of the old fairing and have as a really expensive back up!

3M just came out with a Duramix product that is great for these type of applications. It is sandable, can be drilled, tapped, formed to tabs and all sorts of other shapes and it bonds to just about anything. It is available at NAPA Auto Parts and is in their current wholesale programs flyer. The stuff ain't cheap. A kit is around $95.00. It is the best product out there, though for repairing plastic body parts.

Just tried the Plastix on a coupla tabs and it is absolutely incredible. Thanks for the lead! Hardens up pretty quick though would be my only complaint. You have to work pretty quick.
