Does anyone remember that article in Superbike or Fastbike way back in 1996 I believe. It that talked about the mods to the S3 in the Mobil 1- UK Speed Challenge that the teams were doing to their bikes. As I remember there was a section dedicated to suspension, I 'm not concerned with the rear as I have no issue with that, but there was mention of fork oil and spacers - I can imagine 20wt oil but what would the spacer size be do you think - maybe an 1" perhaps a 1/2" - keeping the stock springs of course ? I know how to throw money at the situation and all the options but the point is these guys were racing and with a very simple fix delt with the lurching/braking character of those early bikes - perhaps someone out there in the miasma has a copy that they could peruse and reply to this query?

I remember seeing that article but being fortunate enough to have gotten one of the few Daytonas without the typically squishy front ends I left well enough alone, except, (ah there's always that little extra we just have to do), I changed the fork oil to the next heavier grade. With Houston summers being a bit on the tepid side the heavier oil works great.
Back to the question at hand, over on this side of the great pond quite a few folk are using the Racetech valve system with heavier springs on the fronts. Here the whole deal is around 300 to 400U.S., depending on the shop. If nothing else this seems to be one of the better fixes/hop-ups you can do. It will give the front end a much better and positive feeling and eliminate the soft front end syndrome.
Good luck and hope this was of some help with the squishies

put in 3/4" spacers with 20wt oil, backed of the preload to 1 line backed rebound & dampening off 3 clicks and supect that 15 wt might be nearer the mark as for me @ 200 lb in full regalia she seems a little stiff - won't ride it full on as she's not taxed and tagged yet but she doesn't lurch like a stocker does! more later...... :hammer:
