My pick-up sensor went south on a ride across Alligator alley last week. Luckily I had a back-up sensor with me. This is the second one that went out on me. The first one at 33,000 miles, this one at 76,800 miles.

The manual puts resistance for the sensor at 530 ohms. The first one, at 33,000 miles showed 625 ohms. This last one showed 618 ohms. My back-up, obtained from eBay, which so far is working fine, shows 561 ohms.

I think I'll get another one because this one may only bring me to 100,000 miles. And I'll keep an eye on resistance readings. No need to remove it, just unplug it from the main harness and take the reading at the end of the plug.

I havent had any trouble with the pickup sensor on my Sprint as of late, however my old Trophy had one go wanky at about the 30k mileage mark, the first replacement I got from the dealer tested bad right out of the package, the second one worked fine till the operator malfunction. I think on higher mileage engines, 30k and above, if you havent changed one out, its good insurance to carry a spare.

Good luck,

I think I know the answer to this one but I'm fishing for confermation:

I got a new pick-up sensor from Baxter Cycle. New factory Triumph part in the package, $67 free shipping (good deal, thanks Baxter Cycle). Resistance reads 620 ohms. Manual spec is 530 +/- 10%.

I haven't installed it to see if it works, but I'm assuming it's bad. It's a "Gill". The first two that went bad were Gill, the eBay back-up that's in now had "Germany" on it.

What do you think, send it back?

I'd send it back I guess, just because I hate installing a part only to find out that for some mysterious reason it didnt repair itself from the time it tested bad on the bench to the time I installed it. On the other hand, it may work fine, MES. As I said in my previous post, I've had them test bad right out of the package, and I sent them back.

Good Luck
