Now I've done it...
Was trying to take off my airbox and one of the band clamps that fasten the airbox to the carb was really tight... and you guessed it, stripped it out good.
It's kind of a tight squeeze up in there, so it's very difficult to get a grip on it with pliers or channel locks, plus there's not much turning room either. I tried putting in the next size up (it WAS a 3mm) and I can't back it up well enough to tap in the oversized one (I doubt it'll work anyway: it is really, really tight!)

This all started because I've been having a fuel leak somewhere (I think) aroudn where the fuel line connects to the carbs. If anyone else has had this problem, I'd be interested in talking to you.

Any suggestions at all? :???:

Try to cut a slot in the bolt head. Like a screw driver slot. Then you can use a er.... screw driver.
If there is no room to get a dremmel type cutter in there, use a sharp cold chisel to cut the slot.

This method has worked for me. I find a (piece of) hacksaw blade a good way to cut a slot and can be got into fairly confined spaces.

Is it possible that an SAE Allen key can be forced into the former 3mm socket? Also, there are some new tools on the market from Sears (to name one) that are made to remove stripped out Phillips head screws etc, that just might work in the screw head.

Just a thought: Jim

Success!
All of the previous ideas were good, but I managed to whiggle the airbox and the connection for that carb just popped right off. I then simply removed the ring and broke the bolt free with some vice grips. I went right out and bought 3 metric hex bolts (6mm if you're keeping notes) and will replace the Allen head bolts with them.

Thanks again, guys.

Now, for the reason that I started all this... I've been experiencing an on-again, off-again fuel leak that has been dripping off the left leaning side of the carbs. After I finally got the carb set removed and looked at it, I still really can't tell where it's coming from. I did have a couple of questions for any T-Bird owners though: if you've worked on your carbs before, have any of you noticed a fair omount of play in the fuel line(s) that connect all three carbs together? In other words, I can turn them with my hand with minimal resistance. I wonder how they're sealed up in there? Haynes says nothing about it, and the $70 Triumph Service manual is totally useless.

I'll take this to another thread under "Mods" and I would appreciate and advice.
