There is two timing marks on the Triumph flywheel. Pull your spark plugs out, turn the engine over slowly and watch for the intake valve to start closing. remove the plug from the rear of the engine below the barrel and place a Triumph Flywheel Locator Plug. Feel it move along the outer flywheel till you hit a spot where the locator pin drops. At this pot you are +- 10 degrees BTC 28 degrees. You then set your Boyer pickups to align with the magnetics. The machine will start, but remember you must put a timing light on and time her between 3,000 and 4,0o00 RPM's.
If the machine will not idle your Amal idle jets are plugged. Time for two things. 1. Good sooking in carb cleaner. 2. Time to rfesleeve the Amal's.

I set it at 38 degrees BTDC and aligned the pick-ups with the magnets (like you said) and she ran - but Boyer say to align the timing hole with the magnets and this DOES NOT WORK.
