Is it worth fitting a rear hugger to my Trident? If so do you know where I can buy one from here in the UK? I live in Bolton Lanc's but can always buy mail order etc. Cheers.

Hi Les,

A couple of old threads:
Old Thread 1; ............. Old Thread 2.

I would try Pyramid direct, first (Pyramid Plastics).

For the T300 models there are two versions, depending upon the rear brake caliper being above (like your Trident) or below (Daytona, Speed Triple). If you cannot get the correct one, I believe you can modify the other one (cut to fit). The other difference between the T300 models, either having a 17" or 18" rear wheel should not be an issue, as I believe that the maths show that the outer circumference comes out effectively the same when the recommended tyre size is fitted, and so the rear hugger should be okay for both wheel sizes (and also on my 16" T-Bird's rear too).

The hugger certainly helps keep the crud off the bike. I also have fender extenders on both the front and rear (Sprint) mudguards, and these help too (and don't look out of place).

Good luck
Geoff

Hi Geoff.
I mailed Pyramid and this is the reply I got.

"From: "Sprint Manufacturing"subject: Re: Rear hugger for Triumph Trident >Date: Tue, 3 May 2005 08:27:30 +0100

Yes, gloss black £99 or you could twist our arm for a colour match one £170. We can also supply a plastic rear hugger made for Speed Triples which can be modified to fit your bike for under £36. Delivery £8.50, or free over £100."

Hmm now I have one of 3 choices to make. I must admit I am leaning to wards the gloss black hugger, £71 is a lot to pay for something you don't really see that much off and apart from BRG black is the next prominent colour. Any thoughts?

What about the plastic one, it sounds very cheap? How much would be involved if I went for this to convert it to fit my bike and would it look/fit right? Anybody else feel free to add your two pence worth. :???: Les.

OK. I went and ordered the shinny black fiberglass one from Sprint manufacturing here in the UK at a cost of £100 inc P&P thats shipping to you in the US. They say it will be a few weeks before they can make it for me.

The hugger also incorporates a new chain guard cos my bike has the rear brake caliper at the 10o'clock position and a brake anchor attached to the swinging arm. Later Tridents changed to an under-slung caliper i understand, mine is a 1996 model. I will let you know how i get on with the huger when i have it and fitted it.

Hugger arrived yesterday, looks a neat job. Made of black shiny fiberglass. I hope to get round to fitting it over the weekend.
