I have a 1973 T140v engine which was fully rebuilt about a year ago. It’s now in the bike and wired and plumbed up but can get it running. It does fire over even tries to run alittle with starter fluid, actually sound great when it does and kicks over pretty easy, but doesn't stay running. It has a C5 optical ignition which I've static timed with the TDC tool to find the mark on the crank. It has brand new Amal Premier 930/88 87 carbs. No. 3 slide, 190 main, 106 needle jet. The choke has been deleted with LCFabrications carb top. The pilot screw is set to about 1 and 1/2 turns out from all the way in. Main jet was adjusted with 3/16th bit in the cutaway. There are gaskets between the intake spacers which have a balance pipe and the head but there is just the rubber "O" ring between the carb and the spacers. I don’t have a gauge to do a compression test but if I just do the thumb over the spark plug hole it sure seems good. I took a look at the valves and they seem to have an appropriate amount of lash in them at intake and exhaust and I just ordered a set of feelers so I can check those but I believe my engine builder set the tappet adjustments. The engine is a standard bore with every bearing, gasket, wear part new basically. To me it seems like I am just not getting fuel into the combustion chamber but I’m no mechanic. The carb bowls seem to fill just fine throttles move smoothly and open full open position. I put tape over the carb intake and kicked it a couple times just to make sure it had decent suction and it did seem to suck in. I could really use some opinions and things to try at this point.
