I won't even go through what a mess it was, but the engine was stuck. I pulled the top end, freed it up and put it back together. I happened to have a spare proper front end (not the exact year), so I swapped it out, along with a SLIGHTLY better tank and a decent set of shocks.
Having just acquired a '62 TR6SS last week with a decent tank, and a nacelle that I picked up a couple of months ago, it now looks like this:
I'm going to try to having running by year's end, with a tail light, and that's about how it'll stay.
