patience my butt, I'm going for a ride
My glas-pak inserts came in from MAC exhaust, but they were 1/14" OD not 1 3/8". I played phone tag with their tech with no luck. It was 6pm on a friday, so I rode down to meet my buddies at the local bar. It's only a mile or 2 away and I took dirt roads half the way. Everyone was outside on a beautiful evening in Fort Collins. I rattled the windows pulling in. When I left, I forgot to turn on my hidden switch; there's no key. After 2 kicks, I remembered to turn the ignition on. On the next kick I shot a blue flame out both straight pipes and roared from the dirt parking lot. I really like the Trail Wing tires. They take a very good bite on loose gravel when you twist the throttle.
I have to check the idle circuit on the 930 Amal. I made 1 carb out of 4 and I thought it was clean. I set the float level after the 1st time I rode it. I was expecting to have a little back-pressure with the glass packs, but I couldn't use them. My exhaust adapters are not tight either. I'm not sure about the gas I poured into it. It's kind of nice not having any gauges; It's all by ear. I better not go for a ride again soon; I attracted too much attention.
This bike is HUGE fun! Bob

Actually they were all inside the bar but came out when they felt the ground shake and heard a rumble. They thought it was an earth quake but turned out it was just you starting your bike about a mile away...
I've never owned a dirt bike, much less a cool Triumph one. Just curious, how often would you need to clean out the air filter? Are you planning on a front fender? Cool bike, Bob. Nice job.

aggravating carburetor problem
I fixed the carb problem that was causing rough idle. I removed the air screw and sprayed in some Berrymans. That's when I noticed a gob on my exhaust pipe where the wires for the Pazon had melted against it. I put some heat-shrink over the melted sheath and re-routed inside the frame tube instead of the usual location. The timing side high level pipe passes very near the frame tube on that side. Was that 90% of carb problems are electrical? I'm buying ear plugs for all my neighbors. Bob

carb tuning
My exhaust pipe glass-pack inserts came from MAC exhaust and I can start tuning the carb. The exhaust is still pretty free-flowing and I think I'll try a 290 main jet. I ordered a 260 with the major repair kit for a single carb. I usually run 1 size smaller than the stock (280) for 6000 ft altitude. I can't find a 280 in my spares. I need to swap the bowl out for one with a drain plug; it's too hard to swap jets. The glas-pak inserts quiet the bike down sufficiently that I hope will pass the state police inspection to get it roadworthy.
Update: I found a new 280 jet in a spare carb. I guess I ordered the 260 because I already had a 300, 290, 280, and 270. I also found a good clean bowl with a drain that I'll swap in. Bob

desert sled is running well
The Amal has a 210 main jet and the 73 TR7 is running well. I got a heat shield meant for a 2" pipe and flattened it to cover both exhausts. I got a Bates style 5 3/4" headlight mounted and a LED taillight meant for a trailer. I got a 53t rear sprocket for it so that it will be capable of riding the Continental Divide trail along the spine of the Rockies next summer. The Colorado part of the trail is probably 90% dirt. I'll get the seat recovered with new foam before that ride. I need to get my big tank (71 TR6 4gal) finished too. That will give me good range even in lower gears. I can probably get by with 150 miles range. I'm hoping for 40 mpg riding in lower gears. Bob

Big tank
I have 2 large tanks that were an option on the early 70's TR6. I set one on the TR7 to make sure it fits well and I can go ahead and have my seat recovered. I'll need the extra capacity for my intended purpose for this bike. Bob
