wallowed exhaust port/67' T100R

I have a wallowed out exhaust port on one side and a frozen spigot on the other. I would like to know my options. I,m sure there is a correct fix and a "down and dirty" fix. I would like to know both. I may have to opt for the latter depending on the cost. As you probably already know it has the screw in spigot type.

The spigot that's tight will be almost impossible to remove. You would need to destroy it to remove it without damaging the head.Grind through it in two opposite spots until you can see the threads in the head.Even then it might not be easy.

If the loose one still has some thread left in the head, you could make a spigot with an oversize thread.I think they are available,if you know what oversize you need. The standard thread is 1-1/2" x 16 tpi.

If the thread in the head is unusable or totally gone, the normal fix is to tap it out to a bigger size;which I reckon is stupid. These threads are more trouble than they're worth.

If you bored the hole out round again,a tight-fitting parallel spigot would work better. It would need to be a shrink fit, like a valve-guide.

Both mime were wallowed out to the pont of being almost smooth and the PO in his wisdom had replaced the spigots with stubs of plain steel tube. They leaked like f*** and when the engine was reved the headers could bee seen moving in and out'

I think this bodge is the reason mine were so wallowed out, don't do this!

The solution I went with was to get a specialist (Roy Shearwood near Bedford, UK) to machine them out, cut a thread, create threaded ally inserts which were then fixed and made gas tight with a ring of weld and intenally threaded back to the standard size spigot thread.

Here in the UK the cost for this repair including 2 new spigots was around £50 per port.

both of mine were wallowed...i used a 1 1/4 inch black pipe nipple from home depot...cut to length ...drilled some holes to tighten ...pipe threads gripped into head beautiful..also tapered inside both ends...billy
