My 65/72 Bitsa

I picked this up for $500 from a guy who liked my speedmaster. It's a 1972 T120, with a 1964 TR6 motor. The guy did a top end on it and parked it in his garage for the last 24 years. It has great compression and is really good shape. I hope to have it done (rideable) in the next few weeks. It's still got a ways to go thiough. Like all projects it's going over budget. I meant to build a cheap $1000 or so cafe bike that was just for tearing around town. Now I'm planning on taking it down to the frame so i can paint that in the future. It's might be a proper motorcycle in the future

After researching the VIN, the motor is actually a 1965. Not a 1964. And it's a T120 not a TR6. I'm haveing a little trouble with the electrical. (who would have thought?) And I still have yet to tackle the frozen clutch plates.

Aren't the handlebars uncomfortable like that?

Oddly, no. the seating posture just feels really agressive. I am looking for a set of risers that will allow the drag bars to clear the tank though. With the "p" clamps they just barely whack the tank. So I'm needing about an inch of rise

A couple other things since this pic. I have hooked up most of the wiring and done some clutch work.

So...Sunday my firend (and wiring prodigy) Aaron came over to the house to patch up my wiring harness. Turns out I suck worse at wiring than I thought. He ended up tearing the wiring completley put of the bike and built a new wiring harness from scratch. The bike now runs on a proper Positive=Hot/Negative=Ground electrical system that runs parrallel. Pretty slick. Then he dropped my headlight on the ground and exploded it. Luckily Sylvania makes a sealed beam high/low bulb that fits the 7 inch bonneville perfectly. And it's readily available from O'rielly's for $20. (by the way...anybody ever hooked up a 1968 style headight to a 1972 bonneville? I know the ears are different) I now have headlights, tail lights, break light, and a horn! Not to mention electric ignition, and a rectifier! I'm going to make a few beer can shims for the exhaust, run a new clutch cable and button a few thing up and then i'm going to try to start the bike this afternoon. Wish me luck

Good luck with the startup. Hope it runs as good as it looks.

[QUOTE=erikmustride;1721298] (by the way...anybody ever hooked up a 1968 style headight to a 1972 bonneville? I know the ears are different)

Hi Eric,
You can hook up a 68 style headlamp to a 72. You need the ears and all the fittings from a 73 or later bike.
I've got the part numbers somewhere if you want them. You would also want to relocate your ignition switch to the left ear and change the rotary lamp switch in the headlamp bucket to an earlier (and later) toggle switch.
Don't forget, the pre OIF bikes had an ammeter fitted in the headlamp, this is easy to wire in if you want, or the alternative is to fit a later post 73 headlamp bucket which has just 3 holes for the idiot lights and a 4th for the switch.

I hope this helps
