Some Basic questions... 71 T120R
Finally got all my contracted parts back and getting into the actual engine re assembly..parts blasted, coated, polished ..
Q1..static timing..I am making a center tool... took out the plug and looked at the crank flywheel.. I was looking for a hole.. all if see is a groove. is this the timing mark/slot ? I will make the pointer but just wondered ?
Q2.. has anybody installed a Sparx ignition from scratch ? Any special pointers?
Q3..Anybody installed a remote oil filter on a T120 ? I bought an aftermarket filter and thought it will make a better system than the standard mesh in the bottom of the frame/tank..pointers ? problems ?
Thanks in advance for any insight..

1- yes, it's a motch, not a hole.
2- follow the instructions

Concerning #3. "I bought an aftermarket filter" is severely lacking in information.
About the only help I could give to that; "Zip tie it to the bike somewhere."

Make a solid bracket (flat) with a thick tab, hose clamp the filter to the tab.

Responses
thanks fellows.. as to the filter I am going to make a crossbar from polished aluminum and mount it like a small hiway bar up front to let it also act as an oil cooler as well.. I was mainly worried about reducing oil pressure or over taxing the pump..I am mounting a small oil pressure gauge as well, so I think I will put it on and see what the pressure does...was going to filter the output side of the pump..?? is that smart ?
I appreciate the help!

In line filter
If you are using an inline filter, then you must make sure that you use a "modern" 20w/50 oil (ie detergent type) rather than a "classic" (non detergent) 20w/50. Modern oils will carry contaminents in the oil around to the filter where they are removed. "Classic" oils will not and are design especially for non filter systems.

Have a look at this: http://www.gabma.us/docs/oil_filter.pdf
I intend to perform a similar installation once the motor is back together.

oil filter mount
oldroadie..thanks for the pics .. that may be better.. less obtrusive than my idea of a front frame mount...I will post some pics.. my oil filter mount is a chrome unit, looks pretty good, but at least I have an option or 2...
