Having problem removing gearbox - Any advise?

Hello,

I have a 1969 T100S Triumph. Am in the process of restoring the bike and now stuck.

The manual states the bike should be in 2-3 gear to remove the gearbox. When I got the bike I was unable to switch gears.

I know the bike is not in the proper gear to remove the gearbox but looking for advise. Is there any other way to remove the gearbox or do I have to find a way to get the bike into the proper gear?

Many thanks,

Adam

Hi newtriumphowner
I have just been having a look at parts catalogue#7
as you are not sure what gear it is in and it looks like the camplate can hold the casing on
because of the way it attaches to the selector forks.

You should try and remove the pin (camplate spindle #26)
and release the camplate from the outer case. then remove the outer case and leave the camplate in the box.
This way you should be able to seen what's wrong in the box.
I think this should work for you though I am not familiar with your bike.

I momentarily forgot that the final drive sprocket will need removed
as well. Whole thing should slide right out then.

newtriumphowner my idea will not work, from the pic's shrugger posted it looks as if there is a "split cotter" through he spindle
shrugger can the final drive sprocket not be left on, as the mainshaft should pull through the mainshaft high gear leaving it in place?

hmm, I'm not completely familiar with the 500 tranny. I think you
might be right about that though. However, not knowing why this
tranny is stuck. It's a good idea to pull everything out to inspect.
