Need Help - How do i remove the Telescopic Front Fork 1969 T100

Hello,

I am having trouble taking off the Telescopic Front Fork on my 1969 T100S.

I have been reading the manual and searching through the forums but still unable to.

Do I need a special Triumph tool to take the fork off ?

I am attached some pictures and if anyone has some guidance, that would be much appreciated.

Re-install the lower yoke pinch bolts and tighten them fully.

Remove the top cap nuts and stem cap nut.

Lay a blanket or towel on the ground below the steering stem area to catch the falling ball bearings.

Loosen the bottom pinch bolts and remove the forks.

Some of the loose upper set of ball bearings can find thier way into the frame tube and end up below the rear of the engne and other places!

Thank You

GrandPaulZ - Thank you for the information.

Followed your steps and worked perfectly. Next phase will be to disassemble each one.

Do you have any advise on that? The book shows a tool to take off the dust Dust Sleeve ? Some materials say to heat them up and then they should slide off.

Thanks again.

The dust caps can be removed with a large Craftsman rubber strap wrench, but there is a special pin spanner with pin srews you open to slip it in place, then screw in to the two recessed holes in the side of the caps.

I believe it's a 14mm or Whitworth equivalent deep socket down inside the lower leg to get the restrictor cone out.

Here's the cheapest actual tool that can be found.

shrugger - thanks for link to the tool

Question, obviously the tool is perfect for removing the dust caps. If I buy the rubber strap wrench and wrap it around the dust cap, would that work as well ?

Strap wrench should work fine. Alot cheaper too.

I haven't got a vice so I'm not sure yet, the best way to go about
the removal of mine. Probly just bolt it back up to the axle pin for
leverage.

I have tried the wrench and did move. So bought some PB Blaster and hoping that will help loosen the pieces for tonight.

Hi newtriumphowner
when stuff is seized or very stiff, don't just keep unscrewing it,
give it a squirt and work it on and off.
You usually find as you unscrew stuff it gets tighter, at this point screw in back on and start again.
To just keep unscrewing, will damage threads
a bit at a time is the secret for undoing seized stuff.

Yes, best to loosen the caps before removing the axle from the bike. ON the bike is the best place to get free leverage.
