Talking Rebuild by a rookie - David's 71 T120R resto/mod

Well, sometimes you just have to hold your breath and jump in the pool. I bought this 71 T120R and now have it completely stripped..going to do what I call a modern restoration. previous owner hacked and cut and miswired and botched about all the systems It ran but under the hood was pretty ugly. taking pics and trying to share. Going to the welder and powder coater this week ( welder to TIG in the missing rear frame section some genius cut off).

I look forward to your comments and wisdom...

David

May no be everyone's personal favorite (as it sits), but that is the definition of a "period piece" from the 70s.

Really.

I'll bet the owner at the time had lambchop sideburns and green, cuffed, corduroy bell-bottoms...

This will be a cool project. Did you take photos of the tear-down in progress?

I nearly passed on my 76 Bonneville because it had a horrible king queen seat on it and very tall tri-forked sissy bar. The owner showed me the original seat and grab rail and the deal was done.
I've had mine for 28 years and still love it.
Good luck with yours.

I don't care what anybody says, she's pretty. Now for that wiring job. The OCD electrician in me is about to have a heart attack...

Red face know when you are well off my 71 bonneville

Paul you are right.. even with wiring by chimps I feel better now...is it just human nature to feel better when you see someone in worse shape ? Motopsycho, you have my sympathies.. hang in there..

Got my tear down done and have my frame at the powder coaters.. going with fire engine red frame with white pins striping.. not original but hoping it will be a good looker

got to walnut shell blast the tank, kreem it and get it to the painter, then ready for engine review and assessment

over a barrell and stuck in it.....

finally got to the tear down phase of my 71 Bonnie engine ..made a stand, labeled all my parts bags, and got the rocker boxes and head off,, nothing serious, lots of carbon and a broken 1/4 box bolt., tied off the tappets to keep from dropping and got to all 8 cylinder base nuts, so far so good,,, then brick wall... cylinder wont budge from the block.. tried tapping all around with wood mallet, then deadblow, no luck... have it hanging by nylon strap from my hoist, with penetrating oil squirted liberally. but I am not counting on it...any ideas to release without damage to fins, etc.. ?? sure don't want to go the chisel route...
