69 TR6R Tiger renovation

Hi Chaps!

Need a bit of help. I´m in the process of renovating my 69 Tiger 650. I´ve just got back all the frame + bits and pieces from the powder coating shop and it looks great. Now I need a little help regarding paint colours for the 69 Tiger. The original colour seems to be the a winey redish shade, but I have seen them in 2 tone red / white, red/silver etc... What is the correct colour. I´ve heard it mentioned, but I can´t remember where, that this model could be had with the wine red and a broad white / cream stripe down the middle of the tank and mudguards. Is that right. I´ve only seen this colour scheme on a bonneville, but it looks good...Help!

Welcome to the forum!

I'll have a look at my restoration guides, but someone else will beat me back here with the answer, I'M ALMOST POSITIVE.

I'm moving this topic over to the "Member's Projects" section of the forum. When you can, please post up some photos of the "before" donor bike, and any progress pix you might have.

That section of the forum is getting to be very popular.

OK, here are a few pics of how she was when I picked her up. The original plan was just a bit of a clean up, new brakes tyres, oil etc...and "Bobs your uncle". So, I drained the oil and then got sort of carried away...by the end of the day I´d totaly stripped her down and have now plunged into a full renovation...damn it! She´s pretty complete and original as I can tell. Since these pics I have totally stripped her down and all the frame , swing arm, plates etc...have gone off to be powder coated. Got them back today so now I´m all revved up about what to do next.... think I´ll just stair at all the bits for a while and see what happens.

Sleep with the timing cover under your pillow, and carry the cam pinions in your front pockets until it's time for them to go back on.

Hey mate,
I just saw your thread - I'm quite new to the vintage part of the forum so I didn't see your query before.

If you still need an answer, the Trophy Bible on page 134 sez that the 69 UK model was "trophy red and silver sheen with gold lining" and the US model was just "trophy red."
For the fenders, it says, "trophy red with silver sheen center stripe and gold lining." No difference between UK and US fenders, according to the book.

Trophy red looks to me sort of candy-applish, from what I've seen.

You might want to buy your paint from Don Hutchinson, or just send the parts to him, if you want to really get it right.

Just sayin, and way late at that...

Radzz, check this out, it is the full colour triumph brochure for the 1969 triumph range, including your Tiger.

It is here.
Damn they look good in all red!
Really... really good.

And here is a magazine road test of a 69 Tiger that I am sure you will be interested in.

Standing quarter in 14.85

crikey!

Wierd that the NEW Trident retained the OLD '68 front brake linkage!

Only one I know that will guarantee a color match to Triumph's colors is Don Hutchinson. I'm sure there may be one or two others in the 'states, but I haven't used them...
