Triumph Tr6 Rebuild

We are new to this forum, however we are working on our first Triumph rebuild. I believe it is a 1964 TR6. This bike was purchased new for a friend of our customer by Liberace. The man who owned it used it and then let it sit since 1988. It was stored out side and uncovered that whole time. You'll see that the color appears to be an orange, however once we removed the knee pads it revealed a candy red. It had been outside so long the pigment in the color had been removed. I have attached the before pics below and the afters will be ready by the end of the week. Let us know what yo think.

Looks like a nice project, and a good starting point with a complete, almost original bike. (I hope you didn't keep the cissy bar & bulls eye indicators )

I look forward to seeing the after photos.

Good Luck with it

No those were the first to go! The bike also only has 3k origional miles. When we got it in we lubed it and kicked it over on the third try.

"They are only original once"

I hope you were able to mainly refurbish and restore the original parts, instead of just replacing everything that was worn.

Actually yes we were. We sent all the chrome parts to be re-chromed including the wheel rings, we hand polished all nuts, bolts and spokes. The only things new are the cables, rubber items (foot controls, tank pads, tires, etc.), and seat is out being re-done. Other than that it's all the parts that were on the bike. We even stuck with the stock paint sceme. It's going t look phenomenal.

Why not go ahead and post as many progress photos and narrative details as you can gather up? We'd all be interested!

So here's what all we did. We got the bike in and first thing we did was drop fluids and get it all lubed up and made sure it ran. Like I said earlier it kicked over on the 3rd hop.

After that we drained all fluids again and tore it down to the frame and removed the engine. We sent all frame parts out for powder coating, all chrome parts to chrome, and sent the fenders, tank, oil bag, and electrical cover out for paint. The rest of the items that were polished we hand polished including the engine, spokes, nuts and bolts.

The only items that were replaced in the bike were the tires, cables, knee pads, seat cover, and foot control rubbers. Everything else we re-used.

All we are waiting for at the moment is the seat to come back from apholstery, a new ignition switch, and the rubber for the center stand. I will post more pictures when I get it 100% complete. Let us know what you think of the work!
