1969 T120 rebuild questions

I picked up a project bike, PO took it all apart and was rebuilding as a bobber, seems to have done a fine job too... bike looks great, but still needs lots of work... ( will post pic asap ).

I got some questions related to fluids & ignition, if anyone can help.

i picked up a service manual as well.

so question about fluids... regular unleaded gas work? what kinda of motor oil and gear oil etc is necessary?

it's a coil/points previous setup, what is a boyer ignition do? worth the money? haven't even tested the coils/points yet... the bike prety much has no wires at all today... not even a battery box, i think the PO planned to use magneto thingy...

I use mid-grade Chevron or Valero gas, Castrol GTX 20/40, and Sparx electronic ignitions.

You can always use a very small AGM or gel-cell battery, and a 3-phase Sparx alternator is preferrable to the others.

it has a alternator of sort in it already right? for charging the battery?

can you shoot me some part numbers for this sparx stuff.

Old Lucas alternators ALWAYS cause greif when folks convert to electronic ignitions.

They are not worth attempting to re-magnetize, when the output is barely nominal at cruising speed; all power has to come from the battery when idling and running slow around town.

I'm getting ready to pick up a 69 project from a fellow, all the motor needs is ignition. I'm hearing that joe hunt magnetos, although expensive, are worth the money. I'm still a bit confused, however, about what all running a magneto entails. What other hardware do you need to function, battery? coils? voltage regulator?
I'm an idiot when it comes to electronics, I would like to have as little as possible.

Hi Parker,

The joe hunt magnetos have a good reputation but as you say they are expensive (around $750 - $800) This is all you need for your ignition system.
However to run your lights, horn etc. you will still need an alternator and voltage regulator, a battery is not necessary .
If you were to go down the standard route with new coils, electronic ignition, new alternator, a voltage regulator and (if you want) a battery. it would cost you about half the price of the joe hunt. It's still a very simple system, even an idiot (like me ) can wire one up!
