bigb's potluck chopper
i recently "won" an auction on e-bay, it was for a spposed triumph chopper, the number on the partial engine, reads tr 6 c gd54622, pretty sure it's a trophy 500 engine, it is missing the heads carbs and exhaust, so any info would be appreciated in that respect. the front end is a springer, and the number on the frame neck, which is radically raked, are F 7637 over a boxed x, not really sure of the numbers for the rake and such, this is my very first-est ever motorsickle, and i would like to do as much of the resto as possible, i will post pic's of the project as i go along, started removing the first metric ton of bondo on this bike, my co-worker insist's it was for clean lines...wait till ya see, i appreciate any help any one wants to give, i am loctaed in salt point new york, and the bike i picked up in forked river new jersey, so if anyone see's this bike and can give me any info that would be helpful also, thanx bigb

TR6 is a 650.
You'll find a multitude of sins under all that bondo, if it is anything like the hundreds of others that were treated the same way.
The frame is quite likely useless for anything other than an around-town chopper.
As far as "restoring" it, unless you got it for under $500, you could have done better buying something else.

work work work
well, work is progressing, slowly but surely, started removing some of the sculpted bondo, that makes up at least 60 percent of the bdy styling, wood chunks cut into shapes, in the front of the frame, between the frame bars, and also holding the tank in position, sort of a moldable super glue, near as i can tell, it's a 70 bonneville "road" frame, the numbers are, t120r, du 61888, and the weld on neck numbers are listed in my first post, i will try and keep you posted on the progress, and design changes i make, and hopefully add a few pic's as i go along.... the engine is really gonna be a project, pulled off the clutch side cover, and was greeted by a healthy dose of the jersey shore plenty of rust but aas far as i can see, all there, it seems that it's a 3 speed, at least that what the shifter is giving me, well thats it for now, and if anyone knows a reputable place to get a head some carbs and exhaust...and any info would be appreciated also

Holy cow! That is quite the project you have got on your hands there. Good luck with it. Do you have any ideas yet on what you want the final result to be?

I've never seen chunks of wood as filler, but as I said before, Bondo covers a multitude of sins.
The tranny is a 4 speed, believe me.

I bought a chopped HD in the 70's. I put it on a block to raise it so I could fix the front flat tire. I got the wheel off, the bike rocked a little so I grabbed the lower leg, only to watch the bike fall over and the lower leg was in my hand disconnecting itself from the fork tubes! I got showered with 'sawdust'! P/O cut broomstick handles instead of steel, for the longer fork spring spacers. I had just came back from a 800 mile round trip on that bike. I forget why the lower leg detached! We nicknamed the dude that put that bike together "Broomsticks"

www.flyritechoppers.com sells a really nice hardtail frame for Triumphs.
also be sure to check out www.jockeyjournal.com for lots of good info, and parts sourcing too.
I hope you got a good deal on that thing. You should pull the motor and hang the frame/chassis in the garage as wall art and start with something less-molested.

Mate, no matter how much time you waste dicking around with that frame, it's still going to be crap. Buy a properly built custom hardtail frame, and work from there. You'll be a lot happier with the result.
