If you would like a bigger range of adjustment for your mirrors it can be done as follows:
1. Remove the 2 screws on the bottom of the mirror to remove the inner workings. You will want to be careful not to drop the glass. This will yeild a mirror attached to a pedestal.
There is a metal ring that must be carefully pried away from the pedestal until it's flush with the mirror base. Then the pedestal can be popped free from the mirror.
The next step is to grind/file sand a chamfer in the socket that holds the pedestal ball. I used a sanding drum in a grinder. The sanding drums can be had at anyplace that has Dremel tools or similar grinding tools for a couple of dollars. It could easily be used in a hand drill. It doesn't take much to remve enough material
Now pop the ball back in the socket and pry the metal ring back into place. Put it back in the mirror stalk and you're done.
By the way the metal clip on the back of the mirror might have something to do with how shaky your mirror is unless it's the whole mirror stalk that is vibrating.
