Healtech gear indicator fittng guide.

Hi guy's just finished fitting my gear indicator so thought i'd share it with you.

I went for the healtech, model GPDS-T01.

Its quite easy on the sprint st 1050 main plug of the unit just plugs straight in to the diagnostic connector in the glove box.

Tricky part is connecting the +12v power lead.

The instructions say to fit it to a +12v power supply which is switched on only when the engine stop switch is in the run position.

They suggest...... ' you will find such a wire in the extension plug for the optional alarm, hot wire of the licence plate light or at the fuse box '.

I couldn't find the alarm plug, took the tank off to have a look, i believe it is under there somewhere, but drew a blank.

I decided to think about what is needed and apply a bit of logic to tackle it my own way.

+12v power supply that needs to be switched on and off with the ignition but also be turned off when you hit the kill switch.

With the ignition turned on but the engine not running i noticed that if you hit the kill switch the instruments all go out but the lights stay on.

So i decided that i would have a look at the wires from the kill switch and traced them back to a block connector.

I attached a length of black wire that i had left over from another job just to make things a bit easier.

Here's a few pic's

Disconnect plug and pull it out from above for easier access.

Red wire shown in photo is the one i spliced into.

Soldered my extra wire and joined them both back together then heat shrunk them.

Taped the loom back up nice and tidy.

Soldered and heat shrunk my extra wire together with the +12v from the healtech.

Finished photo,

I mounted it here in the end, thought about the clock surrond, but didn't fancy it.

Happy fettling guy's.......

Just ordered one of these and wanted to thank you for your write up.

I am curious though, can the brightness be changed? Also, how in the world does the unit determine the RPM's when it's connected to your headlight wire?

Gear Indicator

I have one of these installed also - the splice into the light - I came up with the same solution - powers the LED - best to have a switched source working with the key - the RPM is read from the diagnostic port in the glove box - just plug it in - it's plug-n-play - except for the simple set up to allow the unit to learn the shift points - works like a charm. Hope this helps - installed on a 2007 Sprint ST

So I installed my heal tech gear indicator, configured it and two days later the very top crystal "went out" it doesn't light up anymore I'm a bit upset but will have it replaced under warranty. Has anyone else ever had a LED crystal "burn out" on their unit?

Installation was very easy, thanks to the OP's tutorial, so thank you!

So that top crystal started working again... odd.

Not sure if I should trust it or just have it all replaced.

So, on the 2011 Sprint GT I cannot find the plug mentioned above that connects to the kill switch to use for the switched 12v power source. Any suggestions for alternatives? Can I take a wire off of one of the two fuse boxes?

I connected mine to the parking light wire. I know its still live when the kill switch is off but I never leave the bike with the kill switch off and the ignition on anyway. Also I have never left the bike with the parking light on either so its not an issue for me.
