Easiest Oil Change Ever!

I just changed the oil on my 09 Sprint ST. It was the easiest change I have ever done on a motorcycle. I bought a Honda oil filter wrench and filter, Mobil 1 oil, 20 minutes and it was done. No plastic to remove, no exhuast pipes to work your hands through.

Ken,

Piece-o-cake!

I always drain mine with the bike on the side-stand. After she is through dripping, I stand her straight up and then remove the filter.

I let her drip for a while straight up, then put her back on the side-stand, while shaking the bike, and more old oil runs out.

Good design!

...same story here!

It took a short hour until the oil stopped dripping from the oil filter and drain plug holes. Raised the front tire with a piece of 1"x4", and stabilized the bike on the centre stand. Also alternated with side stand too. By the time it was all said and done, I got an extra cup of grungy oil out. Made me wonder why the gearbox and engine have cavities that don't allow direct drainage to the oil pan and filter openning...

I do all oil changes on our family vehicles, so didn't mind the wait at all. In the mean time, fussed around on the bike, cleaned the fairing, cleaned/lubed the chain, buffed the stainless and chrome, etc.

Wished I knew about SeaFoam then (http://www.triumphrat.net/daytona-de...5-seafoam.html). Will consider using it or similar engine flash products in the next oil change. In the past I added a quart of diesel fuel to my PU's engine oil (while idling in the driveway) before an oil change.

Cheers.

sobrien4,

seeing as you only use a filter strap for oil filter removal it doesn't matter if the filter is damaged.

New filters should only ever be tightened by hand.

just did an oil change on my '07 today, and it was easier than on my previous bike..... which had no lower body work!
Triumph got this right!

a friend with an Aprilia Futura (dry sump, removal of body work, etc.) stopped by while I was finishing up.... needless to say he was jealous.

Break-in Oil Changes

Trying to break-in my new '08 Sprint "by the book" and have a question...some recommend the first oil/filter change after about the first 200 miles then again at the "recommended" 500-mile mark. Waste of money or engine life extender? Thanks.

Change it at 500 and then stick to the recommended intervals. An oil change at 200 miles is a waste of $.

On every 4 stroke motorcycle I have ever owned including both my Triumph Triples I change the oil twice as often as the manual states.

It has resulted in my bikes giving me very long engine life.

But that is just my habit.
