Fuel leaks
My 1998 TBS (8000 miles on clock) started idling on two cylinders when I was out for a ride this weekend. When I accelerated, all three kicked in and it cruised along fine. On the way home sitting at traffic lights, it was on two cyls and there was a strong fuel smell.
When I got home and put it up on the center stand in the garage, there was fuel streaming out of the airbox. I opened the stopper on the airbox overflow pipe and fuel poured out. The only way I could stop the flow was to turn off the fuel petcock.
Sounds like a carb float issue, but would welcome any clues/ideas/tips before I start tearing things apart.

yep....sound like floats....could be a couple of things
1) Toasted float.....got a crack in one and its sticking or for some reason it got itelf hung up. Either way, you'll know when you pull the carbs and open em up. If there is gas in one, toss it.
2) O-rings-there is an o-ring that seats into carb body where the float attaches. These go from time to time and if there is not a good seal, the gas getting by will end up in your airbox and continue to leak. I have a feeling this is your problem. Jimmy900 had a good replacement idea as you cannot buy these from Triumph...only the entire float assembly....expensive when o-rings are around a penny. Check the recent forums as I seem to remember a week or two ago, someone was having simlar issues.

third option and quite likely is that you have dirty or worn needle vale seats

Jimbo,
Thanks for the link to Sudco. What about the float bowl gaskets? Should I replace those, and if yes do Sudco do those as well?

had my bowls off at least 20 times.......never had to replace the rubber gaskets. I have Mikuni's though, so not sure what the Keihens have.

More often than not you get away without replacing.
I did notice they are a little vague on our model carb.
For that reason I would call them with parts inquiries.
Good luck dude, you'll have her fixed in no time.

I am going to try draining the carb bowls first. Can this be done without removing the carbs?
