Hi, this is my first post on the site, and its for my Dad, he has an 02 Bonneville and he is always complaining about the fact that it costs like 60 dollars to do an oil change, is there an alternative oil to the Mobil 1 that you guys would recommend, and also is it important to get the Triumph Mobil 1 or is it all the same.
Thanks in advance,
Tony

Oh Yeah, an oil thread, haven't seen one of these in a while.
You can get the Mobil 1 motorcycle oil at your local auto parts store, same stuff as the Triumph branded oil. Don't get the Harley blend get the synthetic oil.
Still gonna be $40 for 5 quarts though.

If you are going to stay with fully synthetic motorcycle specific oil then the Triumph branded Mobil 1 is the way to go. Opinions will differ I'm sure but 4 liters of any other brand comes out pretty close to the same. If you buy it in quarts you end up buying and extra quart to get enough. (I guess you would only have to do that once every 3 or 4 oil changes though.) Not sure on the Bonny but with the T-bird you can save several dollars by getting a generic or even a Honda filter. Also, if your dad is paying a shop to do the oil change then doing it himself can add up to substantial savings.

Tell Pops to go to the local auto parts store and buy regular Mobil 1 (whatever weight he needs) for under $5 a quart.
Quick, take cover, incomming!!!!

Make sure Pops only buys Mobil 1 MOTORCYCLE OIL, not the stuff for cars. Out wet-clutches can't handle the friction reducers in the auto oil. Mobil 1 V-Twin Oil is about $7/quart at Autozone. (15w-50w)

Motorcycle specific oils are a waste of your increasingly stretched and taxed Dollar!!!! Don't believe the hype!
Use Mobil 1 15w-50 from Wal-Mart! It's the "Nectar Of The Gods" :-g

To my friend Mr. ssjones from Maryland,
Maybe your clutch can't handle the so-called friction reducers in "auto" Mobil 1, but the clutch in my '98 Sprint 900 can, for the past SEVENTY FIVE THOUSAND MILES! Never slipped, not even once. On original clutch plates I might add.
Really folks, not trying to anger anyone, just trying to save you some dough.
