Fitting new Stator -Street Triple

Does anyone have any particular tips on this?
I have a rewound stator ready to fit. I'll use loctite and correct torque, but
does anyone advise using shakeproof (star) washers on the x3, 6mm mounting bolts?
(Previous owner had spotwelded the allen screws to the stator, perhaps that's why it failed)
This will be the 3rd stator on this '09 Street Triple.

What I've found, and is probably the reason the PO had tack-welded (bodged) the 6mm mounting bolts to the stator, is that there's a couple of thread inserts in the alloy casing, one of which is loose. So some brainless gorilla in the past has stripped the threads.
So I'll need to put in new helicoils at least. PO Bodged! Bugger!

Measuring the stator mount bolts, it looks like with 3mm longer bolts we could get much better security.
The existing 35mm long bolts give only 12mm thread penetration into the case, but I could get an extra 3mm penetration into the stator mounting with longer bolts.
An extra 3mm may not sound much but I think it's worth doing, -extra 25% thread penetration. I'll get 40mm bolts and trim them down to 38.

Ah well, if this stuff was easy it wouldn't be anywhere NEAR as interesting eh!

Hmmm, auto-correct... hate it!

I have a fiendish plan if the inserts are troublesome. (What Triumph should have done in the first place?)
Make studs. Could thread them in a fair bit deeper into the casing, and never worry again about stuffing up the casing threads.
Possibly also could make stepped studs to thread the holes out to 7mm (8mm might be a bit big for the alloy casting, have to check).*

Back in the day coarse (whit or UNC) would have been used in alloy to avoid threads stripping like this, - M6 x1.00 pitch is asking a lot of the alloy).

* Definitely not enough material to go 8mm, even 7mm would be marginal.

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
