Just replaced the starter sprag clutch on my T-Bird. The job wasn't that difficult, just time consuming. I did it over three weekends with extra time for ordering parts, cleaning this and that. It was actually an enjoyable (mostly) experience. It took me a while to figure out how to support my bike. Finally went with cheap and easy by building sort of a cross between a shipping pallet and a trailer bed. It worked out great. I took lots of pictures that I thought some may be interested in. Haven't added captions or anything yet but they are in cronological order.

Stan....

Congrats on a job well done! Looks like you got yours finished ahead of me! I had hoped to finish her this weekend but I'm still waiting on a couple of parts - somehow I managed to lose one of the bushings that supports the petrol tank.

We'll have to go riding soon!

Stan,

I hope I'm still a long way off having to do a sprag clutch on my bike, but these pictures are great. Your bike and engine look really clean too.

Out of interest, how many miles had your bike covered before the clutch gave up the ghost?

I started noticing the symptoms at about 26,000mi. It finally gave up completely at 28,000.

Hey Chris,
I thought I was the master procrastinator. Although it took me a year to get around to tackling the job. I think I just missed you Friday when I stopped at RPM for parts. I'm still waiting on carb parts. Wanted to rebuild the carbs as part of this major maintenance. I did put it together enough to start it up last night. May have to get to the carbs another time. Vroom Vroom!!
