I picked up a spare tank (that was actually in immaculate condition) for my 2011 speed triple for track ridding a few weeks ago and noticed that it had a little rust inside it. No big deal, I did the ole apple cider vinegar method and it worked like a charm. I'm aware of flash rust so I had all my ducks in a row to work quickly to avoid flash rush:
-I neutralized the acid with baking soda and water
-rinsed the inside throughly with water
-used compressed air and denatured alcohol to take care of any remaining water
-then fogged the inside with wd40
I thought all was good but then came back about 5 minutes later...there's rust.
So I repeated the process again, trying to be extra meticulous and I got flash rust again.
I repeated this for a third time and I got the same result.
I honestly don't know what to do at this point. I'll include a picture of what the inside of the tank looks like but I'm at a bit of a loss right now. For the guys who have done this before, how do you prevent flash rust? Do you always get a little? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
