Head interchangability question

I've got a couple of 01 955i Tigers. It was the 1st bike Triumph put the new die cast engine in. I also have an 02 Sprint RS. I'm looking at buying a relatively low mile engine out of a wrecked 02 Sprint RS. The cam cover is broken but it appears the head is not damaged. I am thinking of rebuilding my high mile Tiger this winter and thinking of either scabbing parts from the RS engine for the Tiger engine (The intake valves appear to be sinking quickly on the Tiger engine and I think the cylinders, pistons, and rings are done) or swapping the shift cam from the Tiger into the Sprint engine and using it as is. If I swap engines I would like to put the Tiger cams in. From looking at the manuals it appears the Sprint has the shims under the buckets and the Tiger has the shims on top of the buckets.

Will the parts interchange?
Is the cam cover the same so I could at least swap that?

Thanks
Charlie

What makes you so sure the Tiger 955i has different cams? I was under the impression that the Tiger just has different gearing and slightly different mapping from the Sprint. Just swap the engines.

Your right it would be easier to just swap engines. I would at least need to swap shift cams to keep the 1 down 5 up pattern.

The manuals list different specifications for the lift and timings for the 2. I'm not sure
how much difference it would make to the performance. Now that I look the valves are different sizes also. The Tiger has a smaller intake valve and larger exhaust (1mm on both). The Tiger has got shorter/later intake timing (7 deg) and earlier exhaust timing (9 deg). Plus the Tiger has more lift .2mm on the intake and 1.3mm on the exhaust.

Considering the Tiger has lower compression 11.6:1 / 12:1 I may get into trouble with piston/valve clearance mixing cams, valves, heads and pistons.

Honestly, the Sprint engine has so much low rpm thump that with the Tiger gearing I doubt you'd complain.*

As to the shift pattern, I used to have one bike with right-hand shift and down for up, up for down, and also a Japanese one. It doesn't take long to adjust... If I had to split the crankcases to change the shift drum I probably wouldn't bother. Just don't lend that bike to anyone!

*Sorry, just noticed your other bike is a Sprint. You know this already.

When you say, 1 up 5 down, what bike has that. I know that I can make my 00RS/Daytona motor 1 up 5 down by simply messing with how the shift-lever-rod connects to the transmission shaft. You can reverse it that way, you dont have to split the cases. And splitting cases are next to impossible, well at least keeping them from leaking after that it...(:

Because the Sprints and Daytonas have a linkage that reverses the rotation of the shifter shaft in relation to the pedal, they have a different shift drum. Because the Tiger has more forward footrests, it just has a pedal on the shaft an no linkage is needed. If you put a plain, forward facing pedal on a Sprint engine and lose the linkage, you'll have 1 up and 5 down.
