The Best Chain Lube

I just bought a 2001 Legend TT. The chain is absolutely dry. It's about to go into storage. 25 years ago I used a foaming spray by GUNK. What's the best stuff to put on 'er these days?

O Geez this could be like the start of an oil thread.

Anyway I like Bel-Ray super clean.
Also some Honda branded sold by their dealers.

I don't like PJ1 Blue.

I know everyone has their own opinion, so be prepared for that.

Castrol Chain Sprayor

It was chosen as a best brand in German Motorrad-magazine. I did by Castrol Chain wax, since they said, it's more suitable for o-ring chains, but I havn't tried it yet.

No, no, no! You absolutely must use fully synthetic, motorcycle-specific motor oil!

Seriously, ask a dozen people & you'll get a dozen answers, often backed by the same religious fervor that can be found when asking about motor oil. Personally, I've been using "DuPont Teflon Multi-Use Dry, Wax Lubricant" lately. I may switch back to 90 weight gear oil. Motor oil is probably not the best choice, just because the viscosity is low enough for more fling-off than a heavier oil.

Also, here's the really important part: Anything is better than nothing!

I have had good luck with EEZOX - also Breakfree CLP is a good second choice.

My idea is that I want to protect the chain from rust, have it as dry a surface as possible so it won't attract dirt, keeping the metal on metal contact as free from sand and abrasives as possible.

The sealed O-ring chains are already lubed - this keeps them from rusting and kinking.

No reduced wear noticed on 6 different bikes. Only have to spray them 2-3 times a year (I don't ride in the rain a lot). There are "tests" on the internet for EEZOX and spraying salt water on metal coated with a variety of "rust inhibitors". This works well for firearms, and the chains seem to do well.

Just an opinion - had real good luck this way.

Ask another person, you'll get another answer. As the wise person stated - something is better than nothing!

Raiding the gun cabinet again?

I tried BreakFree CLP on my dirtbike chain (RK XSO), after the ride I noticed the fling-off was kinda like black goo. I think CLP eats O-rings.

I like the Maxima Products...

Im currently using their Chain Wax. I like their "Chain Guard" as well but it seems to fling off more, but its more oily, so maybe it lubes better than the wax, downside is that it attracts more road grit.

PJ1 Black or Blue is too messy.

I also tried regular silicone spray, but it seems to just be gone after a few miles.
