Maybe the light bulb burned out?

Or the switch/bad connection....

Keep it simple if you can: Jim

You can test for whether it is just the bulb or the switch quite simply: if the switch is bad, with bike in actual neutral, then you should be unable to start the bike with the sidestand down even if clutch pulled in; if it does start then it says the switch is OK and problem is burned out indicator light.
If it does not start until you raise the sidestand, then it says the switch is bad.
