I have the eyebrow style Triumph badges (emblems) on the tank of my 1999 Legend. The Triumph letters are filled-in with a gloss black paint. I'd like to repaint them - actually my wife will do it as she is very artistic and excels at fine, detailed work.

So here's my question: Has anyone ever done this? How did you prepare the black paint so it would 'hold' a coat of paint over top? What kind of paint did you use?

Any suggestions - especially those from having done it - will be appreciated.

I did mine on my old bonnie and used an enamel paint - the same kind used for touching up appliances. Didn't prep but it wouldn't hurt to rough it first with a bit of steel wool (mind you don't scratch the chrome-wrap a bit on the end of a Q-tip).
