Hi there all,
I was wondering if anyone out there has any experience swapping out a 95 trident engine for a Tbird type motor. Do they fit? Do the engine mount holes line up?
Do the exhausts line up?
Just minor stuff like that.
How about anyone doing a swap the other way round?

Thanks,
Steve

Aside from the other stuff you're thinking about, the shifter may not go the right way. I really have no idea, I just know that some T3 motors need the (relatively easy, external) shifter linkage swapped to maintain the 1-down/5-up pattern.

Good luck,
-Kit

T3 motors wil bolt in to T3 frames. There are pics of a Legend with a 1200 Trophy engine somewhare on this site. Water pipes and exhausts from the original bike should work OK. And Like Kit mentioned the shift pattern needs to be dealt with. If using a linkage that is not too difficult, unless the exhaust pipe is in the way of inverting the lever that bolts to the shifter shaft.

Thanks Guys,
Sounds like I have a tempory fix for my bike. I seems I can raid all of the engine internals to fix my Trident engine at a later date as the part numbers match on bikebandit's site. First I need to find a cylinder head.
Looking forward to having a running Triumph.

Hi Guys,
The TB motor went in fine. Exhaust seems to fit and the gear linkage looks like it will work fine after flipping it to maintain a normal shift pattern. Can I junk all that stuff behind the air box?

Thanks,
Steve

Congrats!!!

Are you talking about the snorkels when you say "all that stuff"? The whole airbox assembly is necessary to make a stock Trident run right. I have no idea whether that's still the case with a T-bird engine; it might be okay, especially with T-bird carbs as well. Do keep the extra bits if you're planning on putting the Trident motor back in.

Cheers,
-Kit

Hi Kit,
There is a box on both sides behind the airbox that have sporkels coming out of the them. My guess it's intake noise damping for California.
No, I'm not going to throw out any of the stock stuff. I am intending to fix the trident engine at some stage. I'm going to England this summer so I may hunt down a head.
This is proving to be a very enjoyable project. I only paid $500 for the bike and $460 shipped for the motor, so it's a lot of bike for the buck.

Thanks,
Steve

Sweet deal, Steve!

That stuff is not Cali, it's standard. In fact, Cali bikes only have the snorkel on the left.

I thought someone just posted about how removing that stuff made his bike run poorly, but now I can't find the post.

Cheers,
-Kit

I guess I'll put it all back on.
