A lot of the Meriden Triumphs did it for many years. It was standard for the one piece eyebolt clamps in the R models which had one inch bores and used two 1/16" thick shims to clamp the bar up tight.

I installed 7/8" bars on my 83 HD XR1000, too, worked fine.

The inserts used to be available in aftermarket catalogs, still might be. It's a pretty normal practice.

As I asked in the other thread on this question...what about all the 1" controls? Can they be "shimmed" as well?

Just playing the devil's advocate: Jim

Haven't tried it, but I would guess if it works for the bars, it'd work for the controls.

Other Motorcycle: Can there be room for 2?
I have plans to do so myself (want custom risers). Storz sells them, though they aren't a first glance find in the catalog. storz.com or close to that. Something like $4 a set.

They're sourced from Barnett (BT & E), if I recall correctly.
