I posted this in the Trophy section but thought I would post it here as well.

I have a 1998 Trophy1200 with 70,000 miles. It has always been maintained and has never let me down... until the other day. I had the shop replace the head bearings due to an incident with a board in the road. After I got the bike back I rode it twice. I tried to start it after it set up over night in my garage and could not get any fire. It will just turn over with no firing and the smell of gas becomes very strong, so I don't think it is a fuel problem. There was a wire near the steering head that was broken so I fixed it and still nothing, so I checked everything I knew to check and couldn't find anything else. Took it back to the dealer and they have had it for a week and told me yesterday that they have not been able to run down the problem.

Any ideas what it could be.

FWIW, The shop is a Triumph dealership with trained mechanics.

All the "usual suspects" were checked out by me b4 taking it in and by the shop. They can be slow at times due to the amout of business they do, but I have been very satisfied with their work in the past.

Someone from the Trophy forum told me about having the same problem and that it was the "ignition loom wire" that wraps around the steering head. Said that on his the wire had broken in the insulator around the steering head. That would make sense with the recent work. Passed it on the my mechanic this morning. I'll just wait and see now.

The igniter was bad. In case you are wondering, that is a $600 part + the labor. Grand total of $1166.00 That hurt the wallet.

Thanks again everyone for the replys.
