What is the general consenses on the use of tire sealants? I've read previously where it can be a mess with tubeless tires? What about using it with a tubed tire application, still a no-no?

I used to slime the tires on my XR-600 but would worry about heat build up on a sport bike at high speed. It does keep the tires balanced better and I never had a flat while using it.

the salants do nasty things to the inside of your rims, as well as make the valve useless.
if you do use it, be sure to get the wheel re-balanced, since the sealant does not always coat evenly

I know from experience that tyre fitters hate the stuff when it comes to changing tyres.

There were some moves to make it illegal here due to the number of blow-outs where people used it and then continued normal type riding/driving.
It's basically a 'get you home solution' (no pun) at low speed and then you are left with the mess to clean-up.
I personally wouldn't trust it

FWIW, Motorcycle Consumer News just said something along the lines of "don't use sealant on bikes." Can't remember specifics right now, but it was in the letters section in the last few months.
Cheers,
-Kit

I have used a product I read about in Rider Mag back in 02. It is called Ride on. I have had no problems with it in either of my bikes tube type tires, and I have had the bike over 100. You can check it out at www.ride-on.com. Phil

I second Ride-on. Been using it for thousands of miles and still no flats. I change my own tires and even when I used the other type of sealants, the "mess" was easily cleaned.

I've used Ride-On since my first on road nail experience about five years ago and am very pleased.
it keeps the tire balanced, cooler, and probably longer wearing.
techs who have changed out tires for me have agreed that it does not gum up the rims or valves like many other types of sealants do-- in fact, it's not a sealant at all compared to the others, so it's very easy to just wash out when mounting a new tire, then just refill again from a fresh bottle. it only uses a small amount of fluid to do the job.
see the web site and/or call the company. they have excellent references from satisfied users, especially including motorcyclists from all types of bikes.
