I've received my K&N Pod filters and am about to get Freakish with them. I want to only chop as much of the airbox as absolutely necessary so I can use what's left as a toolbox/storage. Do any of you highy educated, multi-talented Triumphrat.net members have any suggestions/comments to help ensure my success?

In the words of Ace Ventura, Pet Detective "REEALLLLY!" I'm amazed. 1 Week after I posted this and noone has any advice? This HAS to go into the "Strange But True" archives. 45 views and not 1 single, informative, advisory reply. WOW.
Okay, enough sarcasm for 1 night. I guess I'll just have to go it alone and make it happen. No worries, I'll document every step with pics and ensure everything is clearly explained. It'll be a few weeks before I can get started, but I'll make sure it gets done.
Have a Great Evening!

My honest thought is not to mess with the airbox at all unless you want to spend a lot of time on the dyno remapping to account for the huge change in flow dynamics and reversion harmonics that your tinkering will create.
I know thats not the input you were looking for.. but its all i've got.
That being said, i'd be curious to see how well it comes out and what it does to the power delivery throughout the RPM range.
Good luck.

I don't know how many people have cut up the box on a cruiser, but Thruxtonone did it with his Thrux. He has pics in his photo album. I just ordered a 2nd airbox so that I could do the same thing. I've pulled the restrictor plate on my original box, and I'll either cut it up for dual pods, or trade my "new" stock box for a Bellmouth and a single K&N and call it a day.

Well, the Freakish adventures will have to wait until July. The AF has decided I need an all expenses paid vacation to Afghanistan for the next 4 - 5 months, effective in the next two weeks. When I get back, I'll see if I can do it before the ride to Sturgis. You all take care. I'll try to post when I can. Later!

I bought the whole Freak from NB and it has a small toolbox included. Since there is considerable room under the seat after pulling the airbox, I am now thinking about relocating the battery there and making a tool box that fits behind my chrome battery cover. I think this would allow easier access to tools, especially if I can make a "tool-less" release for the cover.

Do you have photo's of the Pod Filters?
What kind of bike are you putting them on.

I ride a 99 Legend and like the look of the Air Filter that are covered in crome and are one the Craberator, is that a pod filter? :hammer:

I have seen a couple of bikes with the airbox removed and K&N pods installed with no problems. Im in the process of doing the same to my '00 Tbird. I am also having it rejetted and put on the dyno so that its done right. As far as the side covers I am also getting brackets made to hold them on.

As far as having space for a tool box my thoughts on the matter is if you are riding around town, you really dont need tools. If your bike breaks you probably are not THAT far away from home or a place to get it fixed. If you are taking it on a long trip, put the tools you need in fanny pack or a small bag and strap it to you or your bike somewhere.

By the way, I just got back from Iraq. Stay safe over there buddy!
