this is a crosspost from the Sprint forum, but since no one answered there, I'll ask here.

I want to know if there are any companies making slipper clutches for the Sprint RS. I also have a buddy interested in one for his ST, so any help locating one would be appreciated

a slipper clutch allows you do downshift as far as you want and let out the clutch without fear of locking up the rear wheel. It helps with the hard braking at the track. Ya know, when you wanna go from 140 to 70 in order to make that turn.

No worries on the hijack, I do it all the time  .

At any rate, re: the lock up stuff, in the event you're not referring to the lock up clutch and referring to the wheel locking, If you're travelling at higher RPM's and downshift, the RMP will of course increse. There have been times during hard downshifting that the rear wheel is unable to turn fast enough to keep up with the bike. It's technically not a lock up like if you slammed the rear brake, but it can cause the rear wheel to slide.

If your on the track, in a straight and wound out running in the 130-140 range and approaching a turn, you need to scrub a LOT of speed. Gearing down while braking hard allows you to do it. The problem is, if you're wound out and in the red in 6th and try to downshift while braking, you can slide the rear wheel. This tends to increase the pucker factor going into the turn.

The 1050 Speed Triple has a slipper clutch, it may fit in the earlier 955 motors.

just as an FYI,
the manufacturers are no longer calling them slipper clutches, they are now oficially:

Back Torque Limiting Clutches

you might find more luck doing searches on these. I know they make them for wet clutch applications, since the only difference is elongated and ramped holes in the Clutch basket and pressure plate.
