I can't be the only rider who hates having a blind spot and having to turn ones helmet cladded head to see if it's safe to change lanes, especially in a split second situation. So having said that I fabbed up some custom blind spot mirrors...
When properly placed these completely eliminate the blind spot making for much safer lane changes, and riding in general. I've done this to my last 3 bikes and while they do take a little getting used to (that inner 1/3 of the mirror is pretty useless anyway), I will never ride without them.

They were real easy to make, since the parabolic mirrors are plastic. I cut a piece of cardboard to match the parabolic mirror, and then placed the cardboard on the bike mirror and trimmed it to the shape I thought fit and looked best. Then traced the trimmed cardboard onto the parabolic mirror, then took a dremmel and trimmed off the excess.
3 dabs of silicone hold the mirror in place.

I put convex mirrors on my bikes and I agree with you, I make "no look" lane changes with the mirrors all the time. Only $1-2 at a car parts store, and they come with adhesive that sticks them on easily. I sometimes get a little nervous about the "no head turn" lane change but I trust the mirrors in daytime; at night i use them too but judging distance of a car beside/behind you is a little harder.
