Arrow Check your tires in this heat!

Just read this on Facebook on one of the big bike groups I belong to.

Please keep a check on your tires in this heat,,
A friend just had a rear tire blowout and lost the love of his life who was also his passenger.

Should get us all thinking.

Ride safe everybody and do those pre ride and post ride maintenance checks with out fail. It could happen to any one of us at any time.

+1

I was thinking my front was getting a little wonky; *8* pounds down when I got around to checking it! (I run 33, normally.)

Cheers,
-Kit

I'm a bit obsessive with checking my tires, comes from years of being a truck driver.
It amazes me when someone I ride with shows up with a bald tire and states he didn't realize they were that bad...

That is also why they make front and rear bike racks or those center jacks so you lift the bike up while doing your pre ride or post ride inspections and check for "Bubbling" of the tire too.You will not see a "Bubble" until you really look at the tire while you rotate it freely. Not all "Bubbles are detectable while riding either.

Just replaced the front on my America; previous owner was riding with it severely under-inflated and ruined the sidewalls.

Wow that sucks and real good tires are not that cheap these days either. I'm trying to decide Dunlap or Avon's for my ride. Price is going to be a huge factor in that decision making.

Glad you caught the tire issue before something bad happened.

Don't riders inspect their bikes anymore?

I'm not sure - I bought mine for a good price because it had been sitting. Def needed work from being neglected, but for it being local and the fixes were easy enough, and I can pay attention going forward.

I'm running a set of Metzlers that are like new but 15 years old. It's been stored on center stand in heated garage when not ridden. Always kept inflated. Had them checked out by two bike shops closely and they said there is nothing wrong with riding on them. No signs of bubbles checking lining or any separations. I still wonder if they are okay at 60mph.
