New Triumph owner with a problem

Hi everybody, I reciently picked up an '04 Speedmaster and I need some help so I thought this would be a good place to start. I've had it for about 3 weeks and so far its been running great until I washed it for the first time yesterday. Right after I washed it I happened to look at the oil sight glass and it looked over filled and slightly off color, so I thought some water must have gotten in the crankcase some how ?? Any way before I started it again I changed the oil and filter and took it out for a drive. Right away it was running rough, knocking slightly and back firing so I brought it home right away and shut it down. I then started it again after a few minutes and looked through the sight glass and it still kind of looked like there was water droplets against the glass maybe. Anyway, how can I get rid of all the water and do you guys think this is why it is running so horribly? Right now I am going to leave the drain plug, oil cap, and filter off over night to try to get rid of it all. Also I cant figure out how any water got in there in the first place, I used minimum amounts of water when I washed it. Any help would be great. Thanks.

if water got into the oil the only way this could happen is that the fill cap was loose ?????? and for it running rough after you washed it look at the air filter it might be wet and check the spark plug wires it also might be wet or loose but washing the bike should never have this problem.......is the oil is milky white or does it have streaks in the oil

Well today I put new oil in it and then I got to thinking that maybe some water may have gotten in the fuel tank and thats why it was backfiring. So I drained the fuel out and put some fresh stuff in and fired it up. It ran rough and backfired still for a couple of minutes (I guess burning off what was left in the line and carbs)and then it smoothed right out so I took it out for a ride and its back to normal . I guess that was the problem. Its funny, I called the Triumph service department and told them how it was running after I washed it and they said to take the headlight bucket apart and look for water because that may be causing my problem . Anyway I never saw any water in the oil after I drained it so it must have been my imagination .

you can put some sea foam in the gas tank and in the oil to remove any moisture that may be there. it's cheap. and good for the bike once in a while.
