Electrical question: Heated grips always on.

Long story short, I recently had my dealership correct a pinched/shorted wire with my Triumph heated grips...

http://www.triumphrat.net/sprint-for...ttle-side.html

Kudos and all to my service manager for hooking me up, however, now I have this strange problem...my grips wont shut off. Despite the switch position, they heat up. Not going to be a problem in 4 or 5 months, but my afternoon commute is going to be a bit troublesome in the meantime.

I plan on asking, but I don't think my dealer touched the switch; the issue was at the Throttle connection. And even if he did, I'm not sure what he could have done.

I'm guessing a voltmeter on the switch contacts might be a good place to start (and I have to replace a dead bulb on that side), but any other suggestions for troubleshooting? Is there some sort of electrical situation that might explain this behavior?

I Googled a bit, but as you can probably tell, I'm a bit electrically challenged and am not sure what I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance.

Pardon if I'm stating the obvious, but I've stayed up far, far too late drinking beer and watching Clint Eastwood...

Are you certain you are turning the grips off correctly? IIRC, factory grips are high-off-low on the switch, which confuses many people who expect high-low-off.

Cheers,
-Kit

Fair enough question, but yes, the switch is in the center/neutral/off position. Speaking of which, I can't tell if it's stuck on high or low...it's just really toasty for this time of year. For all I know it may be stuck in one particular mode...just not off.

Dumb question, but is it possible that my mechanic swapped the wires he repaired near the throttle? Could this cause a draw on power? Like I said...sily question.

This afternoon, I'm going to replace the bulb I've been procrastinating on, and see if I notice anything peculiar with the switch.

Have you seen Grand Torino? I've heard it's really good. Need to check it out one night this week on PayPerView.

I was watching Unforgiven 'cause it popped up on TV. Still haven't seen Gran Torino, though it's on my short list.

I had great plans for heated grips, but they were thwarted by my Sprint's solid bars. Long story, but I picked up a factory switch to control 'em, so the switch is pretty much all I know about the factory grips.

Cheers,
-Kit

Just wanted to circle back around and share that it's resolved and I now have operating heated grips...and my dealer, Moto400, in Dawsonville, North Georgia was really awesome at taking ownership and going that extra mile to help me out.

Brought it in, after discussing the possibility of a failed relay, and or switch. But first they requested I bring it in for testing. I don't really understand the science but testing a section of extra wire bundled with a zip tie, they found a bare section of wire that was holding the circuit open...or something like that.

Apparently, they just removed that section and the issue is resolved. Grips are off when off and heat both hands as they should. Now off to order a pair of First Gear Tundra gloves for this winter's commute.

Oh and Kit, you definitely NEED to see Gran Torino!
